The Police have just put out Synchronicity (Super Deluxe Edition) in honor of the 40th anniversary of the original release of their landmark album. If many of you were surprised, like I was when I learned about this a couple of months ago, don’t feel bad. The 40th anniversary was actually last year. The album…
My becoming a rock n roll fan just happened to coincide with the release of Van Halen’s fabulous debut album. For once, I was not behind the curve on that one and got on the band wagon immediately. We lived and died with Van Halen, they were our band! We loved lead singer David Lee…
This may sound strange, but 2024 has been a fabulous year for music from the 1970s… or perhaps better said, a great year for fans of music from the 1970s. From Alice Cooper and Deep Purple earlier this year to the more recent sets from Little Feat and the Grateful Dead, we’ve gotten some great…
Time really does fly. It’s like I got distracted and looked up and 30 years have passed since the Stones put out their great album, Voodoo Lounge. The Stones celebrated this august occasion by rounding up the four B-sides they released at the time and putting them on an EP released last week. God, I…
“My best birthday ever… forever” – Stevie Ray Vaughan, October 4th, 1984 As long time readers know, I just recently saw former lead guitarist for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Mike Campbell and his band The Dirty Knobs in a wonderful concert at the Kauffman Center For The Performing Arts here in Kansas City. It…

I’ve spent the last few weeks really locked into a late 60s, early 70s rock n roll bender. Since I saw the Stones a few weeks back they’ve been in high rotation. I’ve been fixated on Let It Bleed… I’ve also been listening to a lot of Little Feat (Feats Don’t Fail Me Now) and previously…
Neil Young has gone into his tape vaults – which at this point, lets acknowledge, are full of gold – and emerged with some recordings made in 1969 with his best backing band, and the one he’s had the longest relationship with, Crazy Horse. I’ve got to tell you, I can’t stop listening to this…
This past weekend I finally got around to watching the superb HBO Documentary, Stax: Soulsville USA. It’s been out since – I think – late May but with travel and work I just now got around to watching all four episodes. And admittedly, I’m on a strange binge watch odyssey of every season of Bravo’s…
A couple of weeks ago Little Feat, a band I really like, released a Deluxe version of their 1974 album Feats Don’t Fail Me Now complete with a disc of outtakes/alternate versions and a disc featuring part of a concert from 1975. I’ve been meaning to post about it but between seeing the Stones in…
