*Photo of The Struts (from l. to r. -Gethin Davies, Luke Spiller, Jed Elliott) taken by your intrepid blogger with his crap iPhone camera There’s nothing like a good ol’ rock n roll concert to shake me out of the workaday doldrums. The Rock Chick discovered a few months back that the Struts, who we…
*Image of the cover of ‘The Great Gatsby’ taken from the internet and probably still copyrighted somewhere… I was sorting some books on my office bookshelf last weekend at the behest of the Rock Chick and came across my tattered copy of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece novel. I was, as I always…
I woke up this glorious fall morning thinking, “Man, it’s Friday, it’s beautiful outside, it just might be a perfect day?” Just when I thought today couldn’t get any better, I remembered Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers released Long After Dark (Deluxe Edition) today. The Deluxe Edition boasts 2 CDs, the first has the original…
I think I’ve mentioned already, these box sets are going to kill me. Pete Townshend released his 14 disc live box and one of my perennial favorites the Faces put out a box with all of their BBC live performances on it that stretched over 8 discs. I’ve spent a lot of time listening to…
“Meanwhile, have another beer, What would we do without all these jerks anyway? “I am the God of Hellfire, and I bring you…FIRE” – Arthur Brown, “Fire” For reasons unclear I don’t think I’ve done a playlist since like, June, when I did my “Road Songs” list. Maybe it’s all these box sets I’m spending my time with from Pete Townshend to the Faces. It’s been a busy…
“And our second group for this evening are the excessively rowdy Faces…” – John Peel The Faces have just released a new box set, Faces At The BBC, which collects almost all of their performances on the BBC from 1970 to 1973. Apparently there’s a three song set they played on one of the programs…
*Picture of Cage The Elephant, barely visible in the light show, taken by your intrepid blogger I think I have found my new favorite alternative rock band and it’s Cage The Elephant. In the early days of our marriage the Rock Chick and I shared very similar musical tastes. But as time has gone on,…
