I’ve reviewed a lot of box sets in my time at B&V from Pete Townshend’s Live In Concert 1985 to 2001 all the way to the Police’s deluxe version of Synchronicity but I don’t think I’ve seen a gutsier version of a box than David Lee Roth’s new box featuring the 1 EP and 4…
I’ve been enjoying some great rock n roll of late, not in the cozy confines of the B&V rock n roll lab surrounded by bourbon, vinyl and CDs, but in the most unlikely of places – my local cinema. A few weeks back I saw the superb A Complete Unknown, the new Dylan biopic featuring…
*Image taken from the internet and likely copyrighted I’ve been grousing about this time of year recently (Playlist: Winter Blues) and wondering what to do with my free time now that football season is over, when the annual Rock N Roll Hall of Fame list of Nominees came out. I’ve often said out loud that…
“No more games. No more bombs. No more walking. No more fun. No more swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No fun- for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. This won’t hurt.” – Hunter S. Thompson, ‘Football…
“I know to trip is just to fall…” – Led Zeppelin, “The Rover” When I was doing my research for my Playlist: Songs From 1975 I not only discovered Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here turned 50 this year, but so did Led Zeppelin’s epic double-album Physical Graffiti. My my, what a year 1975 was!…
“And there’s something about the future better left unknown…” – Joe Bonamassa/Sammy Hagar “Fortune Teller Blues” I stumbled across a new tune this week that apparently came out last Friday. The tune boasts a rather unexpected pairing – at least to me – of blues guitarist extraordinaire Joe Bonamassa and hard rock lead vocalist Sammy…
I got a text from an old friend, Carolina Phil, last Monday asking for a review of the new television special Ladies And Gentlemen, 50 Years Of SNL Music. I had no idea what he was talking about…I don’t watch a lot of network TV. I’m not saying that to sound like a snob, I’ll…
“Money for nothing and your chicks for free…” – Dire Straits, “Money For Nothing,” 1985 As a follow up to our post Playlist: Songs From 1975, I have been doing research, as I always do, for a 40-year lookback, to 1985. I’m still working on it, but the first album that popped into my mind…
It’s probably acutely obvious to anybody who has read B&V, I kinda dig music. But despite this deep-seated, visceral love of rock n roll, I never picked up an instrument. I used to joke that I couldn’t play the radio. I know people who can play or wanted to try and play. My brother played…
*Image taken from the internet and likely copyrighted I’m not exactly sure why, but lately I’ve been thinking about – and listening to – a lot of psychedelic rock. Well, actually I know why. As long time readers know I like to kick off each year by looking back 50 years to create a playlist….
