New Songs Alert: Jack White Releases 2 New Tracks Prior To His SNL Appearance

One of our favorites down here at B&V, Jack White, formerly of the legendary White Stripes has released two new songs. “G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs” and “Derecho Demonico” were released Friday, which was likely in anticipation of White’s appearance as the musical guest on SNL. Comedic actor Jack Black, of School Of Rock fame, will be the host (4/4/26).

While I long for Meg White (drummer extraordinaire) to come out of seclusion and reform the White Stripes with Jack, I absolutely love his solo career. If you’re familiar with the “Great Man Theory” of history – it posits that great men appear on the scene and actually make the history – I consider Jack to be one of the “Great Men” of rock n roll.”

He’d gotten very experimental for a few albums, including Boarding House Reach (2018) and Fear Of The Dawn (2022) but returned to his rootsy, blues rock style on his last LP, 2024’s No NameI would be remiss not to mention he simultaneously released a second album in 2022 with Fear Of The Dawn entitled Entering Heaven Alive that was an acoustic based affair that we also just loved.

These two new tracks are very much akin to the sound of No Name. Either track would have fit nicely onto that album. Like that album these tracks are an explosion of electric guitar. We get riffs and solos galore… with some unhinged keyboards thrown in for good measure. I can’t stop listening to these tracks.

“G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs” struts onto the speakers (or headphones). It’s got an almost martial vibe, like an army on horse back coming into seize the town. There’s a mini solo about 30 seconds in that is just delicious. There’s even a brief bass and drum solo… and it all works. “Welcome to the Garden of Eden, There’s nobody here but me and you, So what we gonna be eating?” I love it!

The second track, “Derecho Demonico,” which loosely translates as “demonic wind,” is the second track and it’s another banger. It’s got an even heavier riff. I love it when White just leans into the guitar like this. The song almost feels like a challenge, “Looks like you started, Something that you cannot finish…” The solo on this sounds like a theremin, like Jimmy Page used to play. There’s some organ in this song that sounds like Steve Winwood on acid in his Traffic days, and I mean that in a good way.

Both tracks have a biblical vibe but it’s going to take me a long time to decipher some of these lyrics. Here is a link to the two tracks:

There has been no indication from White’s camp if these tracks signal a new album in the works or whether this is an isolated release. The songs themselves were released as a complete surprise. Frankly, I was still immersed in the new VH 5150 box and just stumbled upon these tracks on “the socials.” It was nice to get my head out of 1986.

Regardless of whether this does herald a new record – which yes, please – or just a brilliant bit of promotion for the SNL appearance, I’m always delighted to get new blues rock, punk from Jack White. I’m going to the closet to put on some blue clothes in honor of these great tunes!

“Watch me rock, Then I roll, baby,” Oh, yes! Cheers!
